The Saharan silver ant is the fastest of the world’s 12,000 known ant species, clocking 855 millimetres nearly a metre per second.
Its scientific name is Cataglyphis bombycina.
A team of German researchers from the University of Ulm and Freiburg (Germany) discovered the ant in Douz area of Tunisia in Northern Sahara.
