India launches world's first facial BSID
India has become the first country in the world to issue a Biometric Sefer Identity Document (BSID), which captures the biometric data of a seafarers.
Mr. Mansukh Mandavia launched the project in New Delhi today.
The new facial biometric technology is a marked improvement over two-finger or iris-based bio-metric data with modern security features.
This will make the identity of the BSID holder more reliable and efficient while protecting its dignity and privacy.
The BSID project has been completed in collaboration with the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
